Pass the ASAP Act:

Improve Access to Early Alzheimer’s Detection

To Members of the U.S Senate and House of Representatives:

As concerned constituents, we are writing to Congress because the presence of Alzheimer’s continues to soar in Black and Latino families much faster than the resources can keep up to help them. Black people are twice as likely as White Americans to develop Alzheimer’s, and Latinos 1.5 times as likely. By 2030, nearly 40% of Americans living with the disease will be Black or Latino.

We ask that you pass the bipartisan Alzheimer’s Screening and Prevention Act, known as the ASAP Act (H.R. 6130 / S. 3267) this Congress to remove a major barrier and allow more Black and Latinos families to get the support and care they need.

The ASAP Act would allow Medicare coverage to include FDA-cleared blood tests that detect the disease before symptoms even appear. Unlike prior Alzheimer’s detection techniques involving brain scans and spinal taps, blood tests are a new option that is routine, readily available, and noninvasive.

Yet, under current rules, Medicare can't cover these blood tests for detection purposes. That leaves early detection within reach only for families who can afford it.

We believe everyone, regardless of their race, income or national origin, should be able to access a simple procedure that can transform what a family with an early-stage Alzheimer’s diagnosis can do—including more time to save money, plan care, and find support. For working Latino and Black families, timing is everything.

By signing, I urge Congress to:

  • Pass the ASAP Act (H.R. 6130 / S. 3267) without delay.

  • Allow Medicare coverage for FDA-cleared blood tests for screening.

  • Make sure Black and Latino communities share in the advances in Alzheimer's detection and care.

An Alzheimer’s diagnosis is something no one wants to get, but every family deserves the chance to see it coming and take charge of what happens next.
